Rocky hates car rides

Rocky hates to go for car rides.  It is the strangest dog thing I've ever seen.  I mean, who doesn't like car rides?  Sure, sometimes we end up at the vet, but even that isn't so bad.  The ladies there are nice and give me treats.  I don't like the poking and prodding, but this last time the vet was so very happy to see me and she said I was in super good health, so that is good to know.

But car rides can end up anywhere!  Sometimes we end up at the beach or the park, sometimes the lure course, sometimes we even go kayaking...why on earth wouldn't Rocky want to do that?  When it is time for Rocky to go in the car, mom has to pick him up and put him in the car like he was a big baby.  Then he doesn't even know how to ride right.  Seems like he thinks he should be able to drive:

coconut

What the heck is a coconut?  It looks like a hairy chew toy...yuck.  It has a creepy face too.  I thought it was going to be food, but I wouldn't go near that thing.  I wouldn't even want to use it like a ball with all that hairy stuff on it.  What a waste of a trip to the kitchen.

Allergies

This week we are all learning about allergies.  Mom says it must be all the rain we have been having that is making everything go all pollen crazy.  All I know is I'm one itchy girl!  I've been getting lots of cheese every morning and evening.  Cheese must help allergies because after cheese, I don't feel as itchy and I get a little sleepy.  It helps me not to chew on my feet too.

Mom had allergies too.  She didn't chew on her feet at all though.  She just got fat lips and some bumps like mine.  I wonder if I have fat lips too?  I don't feel like I have fat lips, though, just itchy feet and tummy.

Summertime

I had some great ideas for things to do this summer.  I thought with the long sunny days we could go for long walks and spend hours at the park.  I thought we would be playing catch in the back yard.

Nobody reminded me how HOT it gets in Florida in the summer.  I guess I forgot how the pavement becomes too hot to walk on and the air gets too heavy to breath.

It always seems like a great idea when mom gets down the leashes for an evening stroll, but halfway through I'm wishing we had that wagon and I could ride instead.  At least I keep up.  Rocky starts dragging behind, hanging his head, acting like a big baby.  I know he isn't that tired because as soon as another dog comes around, he starts jumping around in loco mode.

This is what I look like after a long walk:

I want to be a beach bum!

I had the best time tonight.  Mom came home from the gym, and I saw her pick up the little bag she usually brings when we go for walks, so I got pretty excited.  But she didn't get her shoes on and she started putting stuff in the new big truck, so I was confused.  Being a self-starter kind of dog, I decided just jumping in the truck and taking a stand would be the best thing to do.  I was surprised when mom didn't make me get out!!!

We headed out, just mom and me, and I was excited, but it looked like we were going to the vet!  Bummer!  Still I waited.  Soon we past the turn for the vet and kept going.  I had no idea where we were heading.  When we stopped, my friend Karen and her little dogs were there.  Now, I admit I had a little run in with Teddy once, but that was a long time ago.  He's actually pretty cool.  Zeke is just a little old man, so I'm good with him too.  We walked over the bridge and we were on the BEACH!   I LOVE THE BEACH!

At first there were lots of other dogs on the beach, so I used my best manners being nice to everyone who wanted to exchange butt sniffs.  But we went for a really long walk where there were no more dogs and just nice people who wanted to talk to me.  That was nice.

I don't really like to sit down on the wet sand much, but the walking part is good.

After the long walk, we got back in the car and made another stop by the river.  It was nice there because we were watching the sun set over the water and I was able to just walk around wherever I wanted.  I was helping Karen take pictures.  Teddy and Zeke were tired out by the long walk so they stayed in the air conditioned truck.

After the sun went down, we went home. Man oh man was Rocky mad!  He could smell the beach on my paws!  I know he doesn't like to swim or anything, but I bet he would have liked that long walk on the sand.  Mom says she can't take us both to the beach at the same time because there are too many dogs running loose who don't listen to their owners very well.  That's too bad because I like walking with Rocky too.  Plus I know that next time, she will probably take Rocky and not me, so I didn't gloat too much.

The Snack Cupboard

Rocky has been sneaking around when mom isn't home trying to figure out how to open the snack cupboard.  I caught him at it a couple times, but hey, what the heck?  I figured if he managed to get into it we would both benefit, right?

So he managed it today.  Got the door right open.  Turns out the snacks are stored higher than even a tall dog like Rocky can reach.  Oh well, nothing ventured nothing gained.

Rocky, on the other hand, had a temper tantrum.  I told him to knock it off.  I told him he would get in trouble.  Too bad he never listens to me.

Cheese in a Can

Cheese in a Can has to be the best invention EVER!  Mom says its gross and bad for people and not even really cheese.  I say "Bring it on!!!"  I know it is going to be a good day when she gets the kong toys and puts some of that cheese in it!  I wish she did it more often, but she says it isn't good to have it very often.  I think she is just jealous because we get to eat it and she doesn't.

When Heather Dogsits

I hate when mom and dad go away with their suitcases.  It makes me stressed out.  I mean, what if they never came back?  How do I know when they are coming back?  Where did they go?  What about my treats?

Seriously, it messes up my schedule completely and Rocky gets all nutso.  But the upside is usually Heather comes to stay with us, so that is ok.  We love when Miley and Haylee sneak food to us, but don't tell mom!  She thinks we only get accidentally dropped food!  We get lots of cuddle time too.  Heather lets me get right up on the couch for snuggles, even without a blanket.   And sometimes we get wagon walks!!!  Only when it isn't too hot though.

Wagon walks are better than mom walks because we get to go nice and slow and stop and smell the cool smells along the way!

Cool New Game?

Genius Kong toys aren't really for genius'.  In fact, Rocky can get the treats out of them, so you really don't have to be smart at all.  But daddy came up with a new way for me to use my blue ball the other day and it was a lot harder than it looked.  It took me about all day long to get my best bone out of that ball so I could chew it.  I'm not sure if that makes it a fun game or a frustrating day, but I'm not one to let go of a challenge.

After the first time it gets a lot easier.  Rocky still can't do it though, so I guess maybe I am a genius after all.

Kids

I have kids now.  I never had kids before.  The first kids I met scared me, the moved funny and smelled funny and rushed at me.  Even when they were calm I could only remember how scary they were.  But now I have my own kids.  One of them walks and talks.  She seems uninterested in me...weird. She likes kitty. No accounting for taste.  So, I'm cool with it.  I like to nap with her.

And there is the baby.  Rocky loves babies.  I think they are boring.  But I figure she'll grow up ok; she already likes me better than the first one does.  She's walking now, but she is clumsy. She has tripped over me, but she isn't heavy.  I hope she gets better at walking and stuff.  They both drop a lot of food, so there is always bonus snacks when they visit.  These kids are ok.  Mom says she has to watch me with kids.  I say she has to watch kids with me.

Rocky the Timid

Rocky is such a pushover.  I don't mean to bully him or anything like that, but he just lets me do whatever I want.  If I want to eat first, he waits.  If I don't want him to come in the room, he waits in the other room.  He lets me take bones away from him and doesn't even seem to care.  I don't know why I have to have the bone he has; really it just always looks better than the one I have, but once I get it from him, it is just the same.

But now things have gone too far.  Now he is letting the cat push him around.  I don't understand that at all.  He'll be getting his ears rubbed and enjoying every minute of it, then the cat will come over to mom's lap and push him away.  I can tell he doesn't like it much, but he just mopes off and lays down.  Seriously, who lets a little bitty cat boss them around?  I'm almost ashamed to call him a dog right now.

Me.  Standing My Ground.
